Comparing divided flonum

 I have a line of code that compares x/zto int(x/z)  :

if( x/z!= int(x/z) then

   printf("not equal\n")

else

  print("equal\n")

)

when x= 0.15 and z= 0.5, it prints not equal because

0.15/0.05 = 3.0

int(0.15/0.05) = 2

But in reality it's equal, how may I correct this in SKILL?

    Hi,

    Floating point numbers should not be compared with == or probably not even !=, rather a relative comparison should be made of how close the numbers are in value.  Solution 180421 will help you, and there are other helpful solutions too, try "compare NEAR float" in the Search box at the top of the Cadence Support website.

    Thanks Lawrence.  

    abs( (x/z) - int(x/z) ) < 1e-6 

    If x = 0.15 and z = 0.05

    abs( (0.15/0.05 ) - int(0.15/0.05) ) < 1e-6

    won't work since int(0.15/0.05) returns 2.0 instead of 3.0. 

    How may I correct this so that I can check if x is an exact multiplier of z?

    Hi,

    Use "round" instead of "int" and then you should be in better shape, the former will round to the nearest integer (what you want) versus the latter truncating any fractional part and returning the lowest whole integer part of the number. Replacing "int" with "round" will now allow this expression to return "t".
