substrate noise analysis

Hi All,

I am designing a switching amplifier using a CMOS 65nm process with a normal QFN package. So the noise induced by the switching output stage is quite large. The power supplies are separated for analog and power parts. But the noise can still get through by substrate.

I want to find out what is the noise level at the analog domain.

Can anyone help me out how I can run this analysis?

Suppose I have the general floorplan and the model of the noise source.

I would suggest you contact your local Cadence Office or go via customer support for this question. Advice would need to be given as to precisely which technology you're using - assuming you have access to QRC and can use the substrate extraction technology included in QRC.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

I tried the QRC but there is no substrate extraction tab in the QRC setup file. It seems different from the QRC user manual.

I tried to follow the instructions in the manual but nothing works.

Would you kindly advise what are the possible reasons for that ? And any solutions to fix it?

     Thank you very much.

     Best Regards,

    Linfei

    Hi Linfei

There should be a "Substrate" tab in the QRC form as shown below. In the "Setup" tab, please enable "Substrate Extract" option. Please also let us know the version of QRC which you are using.

    Best regards

    Hi Quek,

    I am using EXT 91.

The problem I am having is that there is no "Substrate Extract" tab.

I have enabled the Substrate Extract in the setup tab. But the "substrate extract" tab is still not shown.

The manual says I should use QRC extraction XL instead of L.

But I am not sure how to set that.

Would you please kindly advise on how to solve this ?

    Thank you very much.

    Bes Regards,

    Linfei

    Hi Linfei

No special setup is needed for using QRC XL license. It will be checked out from the license server automatically if it is available.Do you mean that the "Substrate Extraction" option is not available for you in the "Setup" tab? It is only available if for spice or extracted view output format.

    Best regards
    Quek

    Hi Quek,

    Thank you.

No. The Substrate Extraction option is available in the setup tab. I check with the licence manager on our side and confirmed we do have XL licence.

The output format is extracted view.

Do you mean that if the Substrate Extraction and the output format are correctly choosen, the substrate extraction tab will pop out automatically?

In my case, it didn't. Is there anyway to get the tab manually?

     Thank you.

     Best Regards,

    Linfei

    Hi Linfei

May I have a snapshot of the top part of your QRC form (similar to my snapshot)? Please include the form title bar.

    Thanks
    Quek
