Text view in read-only mode

Eric L14

Hi All,

I have created a text view.

In edit mode, my current editor (nedit) is used. But in read-only mode this is not the case, it is Cadence viewer.

What to do in order to view in read-only mode or a read-only file in nedit ?

Regards

Eric

    Eric,

There isn't a generic way to replace the viewer with a text editor (even in readonly mode) because some cases have additional functionality built around the file viewer which then wouldn't work if it was replaced by an editor.

There is support for "HDL" text views. See this solution.

There are also enhancement requests for various other cases - if you want this, you should contact customer support about the particular scenario you'd like to be able to use an editor for.

    Andrew.

Thanks Andrew for your quick reply.

I saw the solution for the "HDL" text view. I have tried verilogA, vhdl, verilog view type but in this case, infortunatly for my need, a parser is used when I close nedit and the content of my view is just design notes.

Is there another variable to set or a specific "GDL" text view ?

    Regards

    Eric

    Eric,

I had a look through the code, and it appears that you can't specify a readonly editor for simple "text" views. You should contact customer support and ask for this enhancement.

    Andrew,

That's strange, because I remember having succeeded to do it in IC 5 ...

I will ask to our local Cadence FAE.

    Regards

    Eric

Maybe I missed it, but I couldn't see anything, and I doubt it was different in IC5141.

    Vigneshwaran,

I suggest that you read the forum guidelines. Your question has absolutely nothing to do with the  old thread that you've posted on (the guidelines ask you not to do this anyway, but doing it when the question is unrelated is just silly). The original thread is asking about text views, whereas you're asking about making a specific piece of text in a layout readonly (at least I think you are).

You can't make it readonly, but you can make it unselectable (so you are less likely to change it). Use geSetSelProtection(theLabel) where theLabel is the return value of your dbCreateLabel() function call.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
