Specify custom tool instead of default viewer for log files

Hi,

Is it possible to specify which program to use for viewing logs etc.? I know about the "editor" setting, but this does not apply do read-only files like logfiles. I found a thread from 2010 (http://community.cadence.com/cadence_technology_forums/f/38/t/17335) and wanted to ask if there where any changes since then.

My primary reason is that the builtin viewer is much less capable in terms of search/highlighting, configuring linebreaks etc. then e.g. gvim (which is quite ok, virtuoso does not need to be a competent text editor, but it would be nice to specify an alternative)

Best Regards,

Andreas

    Andreas,

If editing or viewing VerilogA, Verilog or various other languages in IC616 ISR7 onwards, there is a language-sensitive viewer which is much smarter.

For log files (e.g. the spectre log file), IC616 ISR9 onwards has a hypertext linked log file with colouring for warnings etc. The hypertext links allow you to open up referenced files, cross-probe to nodes and instances in the schematic, click on the analysis name and have it bring up the ADE analyses forms etc.

If there are capabilities of these editors/log viewer, we are open to enhancing these further - please contact customer support.

Obviously if you were to switch in an editor, you'd lose these useful hypertext features, so that's not currently supported for log files, and I think the direction is to improve the navigation around the log file built-in rather than supporting an external editor (which would lose some functionality straightaway).

    Regards,

    Andrew.
