Is VSR auto routing placement dependent ?

San

Hi all,

I am using VSR auto routing for my layout. While some of my cells where placed apart , VSR auto route did not connect all nets as in schematic.

But when I placed those cells in different formation (closer) then VSR auto route routed all nets as expected.

Why do I see this kind of behaviour ? Should not VSR connect all nets as in schematic ? is there any setting I should apply before routing to eliminate this ? I am using 6.1.6

Thanks

Sanket

    Hi Sanket,

There is no reason why VSR could not route your design just because they were placed farther apart.

But there are some settings that may help.

The design style setting can have an effect. The default is "device level". If you have a larger design you may want to try "ASIC" or "chip assembly".

It all depends on what your design contains; physically large with a few macro blocks or a design containing thousands of standard cells, or a few transistors.

You have not shared enough details to enable me to provide more feedback.

Hi colin , I tried to debug and yes you are right it was not placement dependency. Instead "Routebility" option in verify-> design was unchecked. When I checked it, it worked as expected. Thanks for help. I appriciate it.
