Optimization method in ADE_XL or ADE_GXL

Hello,

I would like to know about the optimization tool provided by ADE XL or ADE GXL,

is this optimisation based on intelligent optimization algorithms (like GA and PSO) or it is simply performing a parametric sweep?

I would also ask to know what is the better environment to run the optimization or Montecarlo analyses, from ADE XL or ADE GXL?

Thank you

No, it is not a parametric sweep and is an "intelligent" optimiser. There are several forms of optimisation - global optimisation which uses a proprietary method and can optimise in a huge search space, and local optimisation which has several choices of algorithm. There are some details in the documentation, of course.

It doesn't matter whether you run this from ADE XL or ADE GXL (the environment is the same - it's the use of the optimiser that requires an ADE GXL license; note that with ADE Assembler, the optimiser is included and isn't a separate license).

Here's a paper from CDNLive EMEA three years ago which talks about using optimisation: Session CUS12 : Using Virtuoso® ADEGXL Circuit Optimiser to Reduce Time-to-Market for Complex Analog Circuit Design in 40nm

    Andrew.

    Dear Andrew,

I have read the documentation help about cadence optimization tool. I have some questions please which I couldn't find the answer after reading the document

I have a question about Evaluation,

    For the Global Optimization:

    1. If I make the choice is "Full" and I don't specify a "stopping Criteria", does it mean that lost the intelligence of the searching algorithm as the simulator will sweep all the given range just like parametric simulation ?

    2. If I make the choice is '"Full" and I specify "stopping Criteria" = "All specification met", will the simulator stop just after finding good solution, then I may loose a possible better solutions.

    3. What is the relationship between the "conditional" and "Stopping Criteria", the latter one options still appear active if I choose "Full"

    Thank you very much
