Check for extraction and post layout simulation

Hi,

I am a beginner in doing extraction and post layout simulation. I saw many ways on the internet for doing these tasks. I am still confused whether I am doing the correct thing or not. I will be very grateful if anyone can point out if I am doing something wrong. Following are the steps I took for extraction and post layout simulation:

1) I made the layout and open the extraction form ( assura -> Run quantus) with following settings:

2) The extraction ran successfully:

3)Next, I open the test bench (maestro) for running the simulation on the design for which I ran the extraction.

4)I went to Setup -> Environment and added "av_extracted" just before "schematic" in the switch view list option.

5) I ran the simulation as I normally do: Simulation -> Netlist and Run.

Is it sufficient to run the simulation with including the parasitics of the layout?

Also, I don't know if I have to select anything from the following option in the maestro window?:

It will be really helpful if someone can guide me what is correct or incorrect.

Thanks and Regards,

Vishesh

The config Andrew mentions can be setup as described by Quek https://community.cadence.com/cadence_technology_forums/f/custom-ic-design/22187/config-view-for-a-cell

Though the post is 12 years old it worked using a similar set up to what you have.

I found the config much more useful than setting the switches.

One little thing I found for some reason on my setup it tries to use ams to simulate which is fine if you have the relevant installation; in my case I only have spectre and it stalls.

This can easily be resolved if this happens to you by ADE (Setup->Simulator) and change it back to spectre.

This happens (by default) if you press the "ADE" button in the hierarchy editor to launch ADE. If however you launch ADE from the configured schematic, then this doesn't happen.

It's controlled by this cdsenv setting:

    hed.ade setAmsSimulator boolean  t

so if you set this to nil - for example in the .cdsinit:

    envSetVal("hed.ade" "setAmsSimulator" 'boolean  nil)

then the ADE button in the hierarchy editor will not automatically change the simulator to "ams".

thanks Andrew for explaining that - I'll follow that advise in future.
