Using ESC key to close a dialog?

Hi,

in most programs pressing Esc is like clicking to Close or Cancel button. And enter is equal to Apply.

Can I set some internal variable this that that also ADE, Composer, etc. follows this convention?

That's the convention in Virtuoso too (well, enter does an "OK" - strictly it uses the default button on the form). So I'm not sure why you would have to set a variable to enable this?

Should it also work for ESC? This is not my impression. Usally the dialog remains open, even when pressing ESC.

Yes. Is it a specific "dialog" that you're referring to? Maybe there's some specific dialog implemented in native Qt that might not behave this way, but "hi" forms in general would get cancelled upon pressing escape.
