plotting results does not properly work

TommasoF

Hi all,

in IC618 sometimes the plotting "append" function was actually working as "replace", then one had to restart Virtuoso to get it fixed.

now with IC23.1 it happens very often. Append dos work as replace, so in order to append the results I need to pick "new subwin"

any idea to fix it ? moving to another IC version is not a an option, nor restarting virtuoso. Generally ViVa is also buggy..hopefully one day someone will finally fix this (I am talking about bugs that appear and disappear and cannot be reproduce)

thanks

btw - I just tried again and now also new subwin does actually replace.
the problem applies when comparing data among different interactive sessions.

    Hi,

Which IC23.1 ISR are you running? There have been some fixes related to what you described in ISR16. You wrote that moving to another IC version is not an option, but hopefully another ISR16 (subversion) is okay.

the problem is not fixed even with ISR16.19. Do you have any other suggestion ?

Please contact customer support. There have been a couple of customers still seeing this, and we need to try to identify the scenarios that trigger it continuing to misbehave.

thanks, I'll do. is there any workaround meanwhile ? I can barely do documentation and wasting quite some time by trying to get the plots correctly configured.

Unfortunately, I don't think there are any known workarounds with ISR16. With ISR15 there was an environment variable but that was just to enable the fix that ended up in ISR16 by default - and that fix was to fix a very specific scenario that triggered this that we did know about - I believe the problem is that we don't really know what causes it to get out of sync.

If you can reproduce this easily, hopefully having an AE observe what you are doing and trying to reproduce that might help - maybe there's some cdsenv vars in your environment which make this happen more commonly - I am speculating (of course).

thanks Andrew. So far I cannot see any pattern behind that, unfortunately.

With ISR16 I see (so far) that at least the "append" works as "new subwin" and less often as "replace", so at least it has slightly improved. ticket has been openend meanwhile.

Has a solution to this bug already been found?

I noticed that the issue happens when changing between output interactive tabs (say Interactive.100 and Interactive.101) and then the plotting mode is reset back to Replace. So I always have to manually click on the dropdown and select Replace and then Append (needless to say it is quite annoying).

Can one at least set a bindkey to quickly perform the replace -> append switchback?

I tried just copying the commands from the CIW into a bindkey, but it is impossible to make it work for any ADE window as the number of the axlOutputsForm change every time, and I did not find a way to get the correct form or window or widget:

    _axlSetPlotMode(axlOutputsForm7->axlOutputsWidget7 "Append")

BTW, I am on Virtuoso Studio IC25.1-64b.ISR1.30 where the same issue happens

Cadence support provided me a script that "force" the results to be "appended" (instead of getting then replaced). The workaround is not that great, but at least is better then before. The Support didn't mention any fix, so I wonder whether it will be fixed anytime soon.

meanwhile after some months the function to plot on "newWindow" seem to work again, very odd, but it seems it's getting fixed (by itself ?)
