How to automatically update a stringfield from a combofield update

Dear all,

does anyone has already done, in a SKILL GUI, an automatic update of a stringfield when an item is selected by a user in a Combofield

 Thank you in advance for your help

 Regards,

 Loic

    Wouldn't this just be a simple callback on the combo field, such as:

     let((combo string)
        combo=hiCreateComboField(
                ?name 'combo
                ?items list("one" "two" "three")
                ?prompt "Combo"
                ?callback "hiGetCurrentForm()->string->value=hiGetCurrentForm()->combo->value"
                )
        string=hiCreateStringField(
                ?name 'string
                ?value ""
                ?prompt "String"
                )
        hiCreateAppForm(
            ?name 'CCFcomboForm
            ?fields list(combo string)
            ?formTitle "Silly Example"
        )
        hiDisplayForm(CCFcomboForm)
    )

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Thank you so much Andrew for your very quick answer!

     Your code works great. Nevertherless, this not almost what I would like to have. My question was not sufficiently clear (sorry about that...)

    In addition to this automatically update I wish to associate the item of the combo to a different value as in an array or hash.

     Is it possible to do that in one line as you previous example or does it require a function call to update the field?

     Thank you,

     Best regards,

     Loic

    Loic,

    Assuming that your hash table has entries keyed off the values in the combo field, it would just be:

                ?callback "hiGetCurrentForm()->string->value=CCFhashTable[hiGetCurrentForm()->combo->value]"

    So for example, if you have:

    CCFhashTable=makeTable('myTable "No entry in hash")
    CCFhashTable["one"]="The number 1"
    CCFhashTable["two"]="The number 2"
    CCFhashTable["three"]="The number 3"

    and then use the code I provided earlier with the modified callback, it would do what you want (if I've understood you). These seems pretty obvious, so maybe I've missed something in what you're asking?

    Regards,

    Andrew

    Hello Andrew,

     you have perfectly understood my request and your code is exactly what I expected.

    This is effectly pretty obvious, but to be honnest, I had just started Skill language (a few hour since yesterday) so I am a bit lost with the cadence Skill docs available which are sometimes obscure for me (maybe I do not use them correctly)...

     Whatever, thank you so much for your precious help.

     Best regards,

     Loic

    Hi Loic,

    I'd recommend starting with the SKILL Language User Guide as a good introduction to the language in general before looking at the documentation on the specific APIs for various tool and database areas. That's a good way to get started.

    Also, the Education Services training course has a lot of useful content if you are going to be doing a lot of SKILL programming - I'd certainly recommend that.

    Kind Regards,

    Andrew.
