Abstract Generator: How to configure to tool to extract layer with specific purpose

kb how

Hi,

May i know is there a way to configure "Abstract Generator" to extract the cell based on layer purpose, instead of all metal layers?

I had searching through the documents and nothing was found. I created a simple test case and verified that tool will extract all metal with any purposes.

The reason is because i have layer m1 with multiple purpose, and some are mainly for reference purposes. I want the tool to generate only on drawing, pin only. Can this be done?

Thanks in advance

    Hi How,

I think you just have to specify the layer and purpose for each of the metal layers that you want to extract.  The documentation notes this:

If you specify only a layer name instead of a layer-purpose pair in the Geometry Specification column, the abstract generator considers all the purposes on that layer except the Ignored Purpose(s).

So, either on the form, or in the .abstractrc file you can specify the layer-purpose rather than just the layer.  There is "ExtractPinLayersSig" for those layers that are to be used for pins.  Hopefully this answers your question?

    Regards,

    Lawrence.

Thanks Lawrence, I can't find any .abstractrc file under cadence installation directory. Appreciate if you can provide an example. =)

Hi Lawrence, i found the way in setting the layer under "Geometry Specification". By setting the config works. thanks. Now im thinking to set the setting as default. The only way i can think of is to set it under .abstractrc (as u mention in previous post), but i cant find any example. Appreciate if you could point me the .abstractrc file. Thanks

    Hi How,

I think that you can just take the abstract.record, for example, and rename it to .abstractrc - edit out the parts you don't need. It is a SKILL syntax file (by default it is SKILL format, though I guess it might support a TCL format too, since the interface supports both a TCL and SKILL API).
I think this should answer your question?

    Regards,

    Lawrence.
