Tracks and grid points

HI,

Does the tracks in the encounter and the grid points in virtuoso have a relation between them for a same technology?

I think tracks in encounter will be in multiples of grid points. Correct me if i am wrong.

Could someone elaborate on the grid types we use during the flow.

    I'm not sure which specific gridpoints you're talking about in Virtuoso, because I know you can set the cursor to snap to whatever resolution you want, but in general, the "grid" in Virtuoso would be the manufacturing grid. That's the smallest resolution of your process. Typical values could be 0.01 um, 0.005 um, etc.

    The tracks in Encounter generally refer to routing tracks. These are the routing pitches for the various metal layers. But Encounter understands the manufacturing grid too - it's a setting in the tech LEF file. It's important for Encounter to know what the manufacturing grid is, because all objects must align to the manufacturing grid. Otherwise, you'll fail DRC.  Routing tracks, metal widths, std cell sizes, SITE sizes, ROW locations, etc. must all align or be multiples of the manufacturing grid, as you already guessed.
