how can i detect X value

Hello, i'm using ticks to read data from verilog wire. however, when the wire contains invalid value (x) it gives me defauls zero. how can detect this invalid value ? thanks,

    i used simple port to bind a name with it's verilog corresponding element. and then called the method has_unknown( )
