analogLib in cadence 6.1.5 (LNA simulation)

 Hello,

I was looking for some help. I am a graduate student who is looking to perform some s parameter analysis on a LNA. The version of cadence licensed to my university (UMKC) is 6.1.5. Most tutorials have the schematic drawn with parts from the library called analogLib. My university seems to only have the NCSU CDK tools and libraries. Is it possible to do s parameter analysis using these libraries? or is there some way to add analogLib to my university's license?

I had this sort of analysis in mind.

Thanks

    Hi Marouf,

You do not need an additional license to use analogLib if you  have a license for Virtuoso IC6.1.5 and the Analog Design Environment.

You do need to have a license to simulate spectre/aps in the Analog Design Environment.

You didn't mention what version of MMSIM you are using.  If you are using MMSIM12.1.1, 13.1, or 13.1.1, there is a tutorial and example database that explains how to simulate an LNA with S-parameters.  Information on the various appNotes and workshops is outlined in my blog:

SpectreRF Tutorials and Appnotes... Shhhh... We Have a NEW Best Kept Secret!

Specifically, look at the SpectreRF Design Workshops, the section on LNAs.    The database is here:

    <MMSIM12.1.1 or MMSIM13.1>/tools/spectre/examples/SpectreRF_workshop/RF_Doc_Database.tar.gz

The analogLib library is located in the IC6.1.5/IC6.1.6 hierarchy:  <path_to_IC616_hierarchy>/lnx86/tools.lnx86/dfII/etc/cdslib/artist/analogLib

    Best regards,

    Tawna

     Hello Tawna,

Thanks for the reply. I asked one of the other graduate students in the department for assistance and he gave me the path to locate and add the library. Thanks for the quick help. I really appreciate it.

I don't how to tell what version of MMSIM is licensed by the university. Is there  way for me to look it up in the ciw ?

How do I access the simulation tutorials and the tar file?  clicking the following link in for the spectreRF user guide takes me to a page which asks me to register.

ETA: ok I checked the cadence directory and found out that the MMSIM versions we have are 10.1 and 11.1. and I checked the path you gave me and the workshop folder was empty. Is there any way for me to get the files?

You need to talk to your Cadence Representative at your university (often it is the department chair).  They can log you into http://support.cadence.com .   Your versions of MMSIM are pretty old and no longer supported.  If you can update to MMSIM 13.1.1, that is optimal.

There are older tutorials in the MMSIM hierarchy at: <path_to_MMSIM>/tools.lnx86/spectre/examples/SpectreRF_workshop

In that directory, you will see: rfworkshop.tar.Z

Uncompress/untar that directory.  There will be an LNA workshop - tutorial and example database.  I'm not positive if sp analysis is in there (it's a pretty old example/release)...but it should be.

    Best regards,

    Tawna

     Thanks for the help, Tawna.

This forum has been a big help. If I have any further questions I will post it here.

ETA: just a quick question, do cadence licences make it so that the software has to be installed on linux systems?

also what does MMSIM stand for and mean?
