Hi,

I would like to Know the Procedure How to do Function Swap (Gate Swap)?in Allegro PCB Editor?

What are settings need to be done at the Schematic level?

Thanx in advance.

 Regards,

Sekhar

For Capture CIS edit the part, and create pin groups for each functional group. ie pingroup 1 for inputs and 0 for outputs (View - Package, then edit - properties).

There is still another level of part design that must be done.

For function swaps, you need to have identical (homogeneous) parts in the symbol.  For example, an AND gate.  Let's say you make your design in OrCAD such that you have "A", "B", "C", "D" sections.  These automatically get promoted to FUNCTION swaps in Allegro.

Now within each AND gate, say you want the two inputs to be swappable, you need to give them a pin swap ID such as "1" for gate "A", "2" for gate "B", etc...  By putting a "0" on the output you signify a no-swap property.

I had a design with a hundred or more discrete resistors around a BGA, suggested replacing them with resistor arrays.

    1) Resistor functions are equivalent, as are pins of each.  How would you identify pins as swappable?

    2) Customer support has advised me a couple times that swapping in Allegro will cause major problems in backannotation to Capture CIS.  Pretty much took the fun out of it.

Hmmm...customer support is wrong.  Swapping functions and pins is painless with CIS.It's been working correctly for years.

    Addressing the swaps...

The resistor array you choose probably will have 4 resistors in it.  Create a homogeneous part with 4 sections and number the "across" pins in each section as you would expect.  In Allegro these will be your "functions".

In the package view, edit the pins and add the PinGroup property of "1" to each pin.  Allegro will only allow you to swap the two pins of that particular resistor so you can't get confused.

Package into Allegro and start swapping away.

Note that you can swap functions across packages as well.

     Hi Allen,

I am trying to swap between two resistor pack with reference RN1 & RN2, its allowing me to swap 1'st pin of RN1 to 1'st pin of RN2 but its not allowing to swap 1'st pin of RN1 to 3'rd pin of RN2...

    Plz reply soon...

    Thanx...
