I can only run Allegro PCB in safe mode

Hi all,

I think something got corrupted on my machine, I can run Capture CIS with no issues, but I can only run Allegro PCB in safe mode. I cannot run Presto PCB at all, both Allegro PCB and Presto PCB say they can't find the license server when started normally.

I have tried repairing and reinstalling the software with no luck.

Any suggestions?

There are license cache files in pcbenv that definitely need a purge if you add Orcad to an Allegro user.

But, if you nuke your pcbenv directory, you lose your config files.

    • env file, which has my aliases and library paths.
    • allegro.ini

License Server properties are stored in the Windows system environment variables.   Haven't found any mention in pcbenv.

CDS_LIC_FILE is the most important property which points to server(s) and a TCP port.  You can list alternate servers separated by semicolons.  But, they should be constantly active or you will wait until the timeout expires before it checks the next machine on the list.

Check for duplicate properties between Windows User Variables as it overrides Windows System Variables.

If you install the 30 day demo for Orcad X 23 to play with Presto, normal licensing won't work again until the following windows variables are REMOVED.

    • CDS_LISTENER_MODE = LOCAL
    • Allegro_license_mode = single_user_licensing

Delete these.  Please.  Uninstalling the demo does not fix this.
