Test point has poly under it

I am looking at specific origin points of labels, x~>xy

I want to do a simple test which would look at this point and see if it is on top of the POLY dg layer. The POLY dg layer would be at a different level of hierarchy.

 Thank you if you are able to suggest an option. I am stuck.

     Hi Dave,

    I think that you should be able to find a solution by using the dbGetOverlaps() SKILL function.  In using your example, you might do something like the following (NOTE this is untested, off the top of my head, so may well need modification to get it to work):

    ;; 20 is the depth through the hierarchy to check, adjust as necessary
    ;; use the point xy twice to make the search bBox

    shapes = dbGetOverlaps(x~>cellView list(x~>xy x~>xy) list("POLY" "drawing") list(0 20))
    ;; check at this level of hierarchy, is there at least one shape that is on POLY drawing?
    labelOnPoly = exists(shape shapes shape~>layerName=="POLY" && shapes~>purpose=="drawing")
    ;; check at other levels of hierarchy, is there at least one shape in any
    ;; of the levels of hierachy that is on the POLY drawing layer?

    unless(labelOnPoly
      labelOnPoly = exists(shapeList shapes
        exists(shape cdr(shapeList) shape~>layerName=="POLY" && shapes~>purpose=="drawing"))
    ); unless

    dbGetOverlaps will either return a list of shapes or a list of lists (I think, again this is off the top of my head), so we check the list, and if this returns nil (i.e. no shapes on POLY dg at this level of hierarchy) then we check the other levels. The list of lists format (from memory) starts with the dbId of the cellview that the shapes were found in and the rest of the list will be the shapes, hence the use of cdr to remove the first item from the list. I hope this is correct and does what you want it to!

    Regards,

    Lawrence.

    Hi,

    The thread below has skill code that'll return a list of the layers at a given point across the complete hierarchy.

    http://groups.google.co.uk/group/comp.cad.cadence/browse_thread/thread/503a417a2bc94e33/452d4c829587484d

    The individual message is:

    http://groups.google.co.uk/group/comp.cad.cadence/msg/c12d840b2066e820

    If you change the line

     (dbGetOverlaps d_cv (list pt pt) t depth)

    to

     (dbGetOverlaps d_cv (list pt pt) (list "POLY1" "drawing") depth)

    then it will return (list "POLY1"  "drawing") if the layer does exist, or nil if not.

     Cheers,

     Roger

    Thank you both very much for the great suggestions. I am not an expert SKILL person by any means, just enough to get me in trouble. I have been playing with this dbGetOverlaps and I wanted to ask another question. It seems to me that it is not truly checking for poly at a certain point. It seems to be finding any poly that has its bBox region encompassing the given point. I have a situation where there is a comb structure of poly, inverter standard cell with many fingers. I have a label that is off of the poly, sitting in between fingers. It is not sitting on the poly but it is within the bBox of the poly polygon so it comes back as true when I don't want it to.

     Does my explanation make sense? If so, any suggestion on how to remedy? Truly appreciate everyone taking the time to reply, this is a great resource.

    You want to use dbGetTrueOverlaps to handle your situation. When used many times, it will be a little slower, but it is the accurate solution you are looking for.

    Wow, this is too easy!

    Thanks again, I think I have what I need now.
