About .cdsinit file

Hi,

I found the bindkey of IC6.1 is different from IC5.1. So I want to modify them. I made a file "bindkey" which will load il file and other settings and put it in my work directory. When I input load("bindkeys") in CIW, it works and bindkeys is correct. Because I have no permission to modify .cdsinit in install dir which on server so I make  .cdsinit file in local and write load("bindkeys") in it but it doesn't work. I think the software has not load .cdsinit file but I don't know the reason. I guess the search mechanism causes when first file is loaded the search will stop. Am I right? I hope someone can help me.

Best Regards,
Bobby

Hi Bobby - The tool can be setup to only read certain cdsinit files.   Have you creating a .cdsinit file in your home directory?

    Bobby,

Maybe there's a site .cdsinit in <ICinstDir>/tools/dfII/local which is being read first, and doesn't contain code to look for other .cdsinit files? Alternatively, it may have been configured to use the "Cadence Search File" method in IC61 to look for this file. If you do:

    cdswhich -lookupconfig .cdsinit

it will tell you if it's configured to find this file via CSF. If so, you can do:

    cdswhich .cdsinit

to find out which is being found. If it's not configured to use CSF, it will follow the <instDir>/tools/dfII/local, then working dir, then home order.

In all cases it only loads the first unless SKILL code is added to continue searching elsewhere. Some customers look for a different filename called something else e.g. .cdsuser or .cdslocal - depends on the SKILL coding chosen.

    Andrew.

    Andrew,

Thank you very much. I can not find the directory /tools.lnx86/dfII/localI. And in my working directory when I input
    cdswhich -lookupconfig .cdsinit
It reply me: Info (cdswhich): Cadence software is not configured to locate
file '.cdsinit' via Cadence Search File mechanism
    And whenn I input
    cdswhich .cdsinit
It reply me: Info (cdswhich): '.cdsinit' found at:
                 ./.cdsinit

Does this mean my effective .cdsinit is in current directory ?

    Best Regards,
    Bobby

    Hi Andrew,

I have another thing to tell you.  I installed two different version virtuoso IC5.1 and IC6.1. But only using version IC5.1 I can load .cdsinit. It's too strange.

    Best Regards,
    Bobby

From your previous append (sorry, I didn't see that), it suggests that .cdsinit in the working directory is the one that should get loaded.

I suggest you contact Customer Support - there must be something in your environment messing things up - it does sound strange, but it's extremely unlikely to be a bug.

    Andrew.

    hi Andrew,

I also have a question regarding .cdsinit file.

After I edited the file and saved, then started the virtuoso, but somehow it is over written to its original.  I have confirmed it was edited before starting the virtuoso.

What do I do to stop over writing one that I've edited? Where should I look causing this annoying problem?

    Thanks,

First of all, please read the Forum Guidelines. This asks you not to post on the end of old threads.

Secondly, this behaviour is not a standard feature of Virtuoso, so it's probably something that is either being done by a wrapper script around virtuoso that you're invoking, or in the central .cdsinit at your site. It's not behaviour that Cadence provides. So you will need to speak to your CAD team (if you have one).

    Regards,

    Andrew.
