GRID SPACING

Hi all,

regarding changing the grid spacing in the schematic composer & the layout editor of virtuoso.

Is the grid spacing dependant on what technology file is attached to the library at the time of creation of the library?

Is it advisable to change the grid spacing to adjust things while drawing the layout

regards

one more thing is it possible to have access to cadence tool videos & turorials on cadence website with this community forum login details (username & password) or a separate one has to be created? If yes then please let me know the URL or procedure for the same.

     thanks

It is possible to have the grid spacing (for schematic and layout) set on the technology library, although that may or may not be done - it's less likely with the schematic because there's very little need to have that technology-specific. I assume you're talking about the snap spacing here anyway, rather than grid spacing? The manufacturing grid is in the technology file, but the snap spacing is controlled by properties on the cellView, the library, the technology library, or failing that in the cdsenv.

Search in the documentation for xSnapSpacing and ySnapSpacing (or schSnapSpacing or symSnapSpacing for schematic/symbol editor) for more details.

And for your second question, you can use your customer support login to reach the forums and other things on the site, but the forum login doesn't automatically give you access to the customer support site. To register you'd go to the support.cadence.com site and then use the (fairly obvious) "Register Now" link on the login page.

thank you very much for the detailed explnation but i am a bit confued. couldn't undetstand clearly your last post. I will explain the pr0oblem in brief - i had an issue while drawing the layout - DRC ERROR " edge of rectangle not on grid", so as per the error i had drawn a rectangle whose edges were not failling on the grid.

so why is it so important that the edge of all shapes drawn in layout editor should fall on grid?

there are 2 ways to correct this either change the dimentions of the rectagle or change the x,y snap / grid spacing. as per you we should change the snaping not the grid spacing?

    regards

There are manufacturing reasons why objects should be on a grid - there is finite resolution during the mask-making process (amongst others).

Changing the snap spacing will not alter a DRC rule which is expecting the data to be on a predefined grid - the snap spacing will help you honour the grid rules for the process, but the DRC rule will be checking against some absolute grid value defined in the design rule manual (I expect).

    Regards,

    Andrew.
