can't plot waveform while simulating in cadence virtuoso via spectre

Hello!

I can't plot waveform while simulating in cadence virtuoso IC 6.1.5 via spectre.

When I initiate Netlist and Run (green button), these are the results:

Delete psf data in /home/eda/simulation/R_div/spectre/schematic/psf.
generate netlist...
Begin Incremental Netlisting Apr 6 23:23:36 2014
End netlisting Apr 6 23:23:36 2014

The netlist is up to date.
Time taken to compare the design with netlist: 0.0s
...successful.
compose simulator input file...
...successful.
start simulator if needed...
...successful.
simulate...
INFO (ADE-3071): Simulation completed successfully.
reading simulation data...
...successful.
net /in selected but not highlighted
net /out selected but not highlighted

---Any solutions? Thank you!

    Hi,

From the information given so far, I don't have a specific solution, but I'll try to describe a likely scenario.

It sounds to me like you are trying to plot using the Plot Outputs icon on the lower right of the ADE L window, but if you are using a different method, please specify.

The first thing to check is that the desired signals are actually being saved in the output file.  The easiest way to determine what the simulator is being told to save is to look at the netlist file using Simulate->Netlist->Display.  Near the bottom you want to look for the lines that begin with save and saveOptions.  From the description, I would guess that you have a save statement that does not include your signals "in" and "out".  This could happen for a variety of reasons, but the most common would be that you have the Plot checkbox enabled, but not the Save checkbox for these signals in the Outputs pane.

Hope this helps.  If not, can you reply with the save and saveOptions lines from the netlist as well as the first setting in the Outputs->Save all... dialog (Select signals to output (save)).

    Regards,

    TOM

Assuming there was nothing in the spectre.out output log to indicate that there was a problem during simulation, what does Tools->Results Browser show? (maybe you can take a screenshot and upload the picture via the Options tab when posting a reply?)

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hello, Andrew.

When I do initiate Tools>Results Browser,  Results Browser dialog box does not appear. No change in display in CIW window.

Is there a problem on the software? Thanks!

As Andrew mentioned, a screen shot of what you are seeing might be helpful.

There is nothing wrong in the netlist.  I was able to run it in a stand alone spectre session and plot the in and out signals from the results browser.  Note that invoking the results browser will not cause an addional window to appear.  The Results Browser in ViVA is implemented as an assistant which will be docked in the lower left corner of the waveform window (see attached image).

    Hello, Tom.

When I click results browser, even the calculator command and all related to plotting commands, nothing happens. I think waveform window is not enabled when I check setting plot options. I don't know how to enable it. Thank you very much for all the help, guys...

The fact that those options are greyed out shouldn't bother you - they are obsolete and have now been removed in IC616.

I've no idea why the results browser shouldn't open (or the calculator). If you were using IC614, I could explain it as being some Java problem, but the calculator, results browser etc are part of the same executable (and not Java any more) - so I have never seen this before.

If you run "viva" from the UNIX command line, do you get a graph window appear?

Otherwise, I would suggest installing a newer hotfix (IC615 ISR17) or the latest IC616 hotfix (ISR5) to see if that improves matters. If not, please contact customer support as I think we need to take a look at your environment.

    Kind Regards,

    Andrew

    Hello, Andrew.

I try to run "viva" and "viva -64". I don't have problem in viva -64 but when i choose Tools>Calculator or Results Browser, nothing happens...viva

The first two attempts show you have a problem accessing licenses, but presumably the license became available when you ran "viva -64". I've no idea why the graph window doesn't appear - this is very odd.

You're running an unsupported OS (Ubuntu), but I doubt that's the reason. As I said before you should try installing a more recent version to see if that fixes it, and if not, contact customer support.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

I have checked lots of different websites and also read this thread but I could not solve my issue. Whenever I run a long transient simulation I cannot have the results by getting this error "net /vstore selected but not highlighted". When I run less than 1 ms, I can see the results but when I run more than that which I need 4 ms I cannot see the results. I have also checked my netlist and the nodes that I am looking for are mentioned to be saved there. Any comment or idea?

    Regards,

    Mehdi
